About Museum

Venice is famous as “Lagoon city” built on small islands in the north of Italy. In medieval times, It had built a vast fortune by international trade with eastern countries and made its name in the world as a powerful maritime nation.
Kitaichi Venetian Art Museum was founded in 1988 for the sake of introduction of affluent culture of Venice. Otaru has several things in common with Venice ; both famous for canal, glass crafts, prosperous maritime trade in the past.
Otaru has preserved lots of ancient buildings and traditions. Venice is a good example for Otaru.

The museum façade was designed modeled on “Palazzo Grassi” in Venice. It’s interior, exhibits, furniture and furnishings are standardized in Venetian style.
It’s exhibiting rooms on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th floor, replicating state room, dining room, bath room, etc., introduce seasonal luxurious lifestyle of medieval
Venetian aristocrats. Around 3,000 pieces of Venetian art glass and furniture are displayed all through the year.
